"\\192.168.1.20\complete-music-collection" and that did nothing.

Regarding SMB- I have no idea what that is nor where I would implement the URL you refer to "smb://username:password@ipaddress:port/complete-music-collection/"

Please advise where to put this- in music path?

in the same place you were putting "\\dlink-59C1E7\complete-music-collection"

since you already have a working mapped drive made of it, try right clicking the drive in explorer and go to properties. the url to use should be in there. Im not overly familiar with vista, but the concept should be the same

SMB is the protocol windows uses to share files and folders.

woo-hoo! That worked! - at least it does not give me the "No music folders found" error. Now my question is where do I see the music files and how do I share them with others? Is there a URL where they go or what?

unfortunately, I dont know
once the folder is mapped they should auto populate. if not, then i sounds like sub sonic isn't dealing with the url very well. see if you can take out the "username:password@" part and restart subsonic
