No JVM could be found on your system - POSSIBLY RESOLVED

Postby mjanosko » Wed Feb 13, 2013 8:57 pm

So, after practically crapping my pants after updating Java, only to find that Subsonic broke with the "No JVM could be found on your system!" message, I did some playing around and was able to resolve the issue with ZERO changes to my system, or even a reboot.

I am running Win764, so by default Oracle tries to force the 64bit client on you. I simply installed the 32bit (OFFLINE - online version DID NOT WORK - gave an error message), or 586 version, in ADDITION to the 64bit that Oracle installed by default. Once this was installed I had TWO entries in Programs and Features "Java" and "Java x64". At this point I relaunched the Subsonic tray-app, and everything was golden.

The URL for the 32bit OFFLINE installer is located here: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre7-downloads-1880261.html. The file I used was Windows x86 Offline 30.05 MB jre-7u13-windows-i586.exe

Hopefully this helps anyone who can not get this resolved, or who is not comfortable enough changing paths within the OS itself.

NOTE: I did NOT do an uninstall prior to the 64 or 32bit versions, it just seemed to not want the 64bit version.

That is correct. Subsonic uses 32-bit java.
