Max Bitrate for isub

Postby dibs » Fri Feb 15, 2013 4:13 am

I've seen a few threads on this topic by doing a search but can't find an answer. I have a few friend accounts that use isub that I like to lower the bitrate on, but can't seem to successfully do it on the server side.

I have tried setting the "user" with a max bit rate, then trying to set the "players" with a max bitrate one at a time and both at a time, but isub always seems to honor the bitrate set in the app. The only way I can seem to get the bitrate lower is to tell them to set it themselves in the isub app. I have the transcoding settings all on the default and the log (about) confirms that these are in fact being downsampled by whatever the isub app is set to and not what I set in the server settings. When they listen through the web player, downsampling seems to work just fine, just not on isub.

Anyone know how to do this? Maybe a tweak in the transcoding settings?

Thanks! I am a former audiogalaxy user and am really starting to come around on subsonic. :)

just a follow up with what my log is saying. Now it looks like some songs are donwsampling at what I have for their player (96K), but then it shoots right back up to the app setting (128K). Could that random error be some sort of sign?:

Try turning off caching on the player. iSub caches the songs, which basically downloads them to your device, and then plays from there, not from the "server" per se.

Thanks, didn't even think about the caching. I have played around woth turning that off but still running into an issue with my interbet bandwidth which is why I started this thread.

I have my internet and tv on the same incoming cable woth a splitter, one going to a cable card tuner and the other going to the high speed modem. Whenever soneone jumps on isub, my tv quality just drops to skipping and pixelation. I have not shown this when streaming form the we player, just isub. I was wondering if there is some way to limit the data going out of my server to the internet and if the bitrate setting in isub would even help. How does that work woth isub on the server side?

Thanks!
