Music doesn't start to play

Hi,

When i try to listen some tunes, the music doesn't startto play. The player stay at 0:00. If I move cursor at 00:01, the music start normally

Does this happen on all flac files or just some?
Also what browser are you using? There have been some reports that FF (latest) seems to have some problems with transcoded audio.

Hi,

I tried Chrome, IE, Firefox. it's the same

It doesn't happen for all flac, an example of a flac that start directly

I also try to change the ffmpeg version to use the newest one (change in the /var/subsonic/transcode) but it's doesn't change anything
For the moment , I haven't found any mp3 that doesn't work correctly but... :|

If you do a google on that it appears that a few peeps have a problem with that error resulting in choppy playback, wrong speed etc.
Seems to only effect Linux (or flavours of) users.
Unfortunately I couldn't find a solution on my brief look (certainly not one I could understand) but you may have more luck.
But it seems to only happen in transcoding flac to mp3 using FFMPEG :?

You may want to try using the version of ffmpeg that is included in your distro and see if that gets rid of the issue.

I've noticed that you're using Java 7. It is my understanding that Subsonic does not support Java 7 yet. Have you tried going back to Java 6u38?

I found someting interresting but I can't define what is issue
I analyzed the tag of a song that doesn't work. the "metadata_block_picture" is bigger than a song that works

I have deleted the metadata_block_picture tag and wonderful it works!

I don't know if it is a tag problem, the length of the picture tag, the length of all the tags? Is it a know limitation?

I did the coversion manually

I've been having the exact issue you're describing, and it's driving me nuts! Your comment about the cover art gave me an idea, add "-map a" to the transcoder. After doing so all my FLAC songs transcode reliably, this does remove the covert art from the final song though.

This works:

I'm pretty sure none of the clients do anything with embedded cover art though so it removing it shouldn't be an issue. I am curious why it would be causing the crashes though.

I didn't find much documentation on how ffmpeg handles transcoding to stdout with cover art (Just this bug report). How does Subsonic handle the stream? My hunch is that when a transcode job is kicked off and the file contains album art, the image comes through at the beginning of the stream (since ffmpeg expects the receiving client to display that immediately then play the song). Subsonic may not be prepared to handle this so while no error is reported Subsonic still chokes on the incoming stream.

This would explain why seeking 1 or 2 seconds into the song will make it play.
