Question about Remote Control function with FLAC

Postby marcusmv3 » Tue Feb 26, 2013 1:11 am

Hi all, a happy new SubSonic user here, using v4.7 on my PC and the SubSonic Android app on my Galaxy S3 smartphone. Just had a question I couldn't find the answer to by searching...

I understand that when I'm playing FLAC files on my phone that they are being transcoded to MP3 on the fly by the server PC and then being sent to my phone, that is all well and good. But how about when using the remote control function to playback on the server PC? Are the true FLAC files being played or are they also being transcoded locally? Just wondering as I have a good number of 24-bit/96kHz vinyl rips (love that I can play these on the go now, BTW!) and one day soon will have a quality stereo hooked up to a decent DAC (M-Audio Audiophile 24/192) and obviously would not want them to be transcoded on playback in this instance.

I'm hoping to make SubSonic my exclusive playback software and this would seal the deal. Using the phone as a remote control is so ideal, especially when you get a phone call and the music pauses and restarts automatically - very nice.

Thanks in advance for the help, all!

The files are transcoded regardless of the "Remote Control" setting.

That's a bummer. I too was hoping I could play FLAC files without transcoding.
