I Can't map my external hard drive.

Postby djembeman » Sun Apr 03, 2011 1:58 am

I can't seem to figure out what I need to type in for the path to my external hard drive. I have my iTunes folder mapped and another music download folder mapped, but I can't seem to figure out how to map the external hard drive.

I'm on MacOS X.

Is the external disk mounted ? You should see it in finder under devices if it is.

Then you can get the volume location by "right clicking" and choosing Info. You can see the location best by choosing info on a file within a folder on the external disk.

If you can see it in Finder under Devices it probably isn't mounted. You might need to see if it is formated in FAT32 vs NTFS or other unsupported filesystem, if it won't mount automatically when plugged in.

Can you see it in Disk Utility (in apps/utilities) ?

If it is mounted and accessible the path would be something like /Volumes/My Book (this is the path of my WD external disk)

There we go! Volumes was what I was missing. Thank you! Now if I could just get my Droid 1 to actually play a movie using Subsonic![/u][/b]

Subsonic does not like mapped drives. Set up the drive as a UNC network path.

e.g. \\Music

I have no problems with three different media paths to a "mapped" drive. Not sure if there's a difference between Subsonic on a Windows machine or Linux machine in regards to mapped drives, but mine's been working with no problems.

Yeah - it's a Windows quirk. Nobody seems to know why, but Subsonic doesn't like external drives on Windows.
