Bitrate for videos no longer works...

Postby SirGCal » Sat Aug 10, 2013 1:55 am

I've been experimenting...

Bitrate is broken. Seems locked. I've tested, even with the web player directly to the server through a browser changing from 5000kbps down to 400kbps... Trying to change the quality of the pictures and the speed of the transmission as tests... All the time watching the status of the transmission on another browser tab.

The whole thing remained constant between 1-1.5Mb/s... No matter what I did with the bitrate slider. I understand that the android player doesn't have simple adjustments so far (should be settable in settings though or something so you can tweak it for where you are) but it seems they are hard-locked acrossed the board. Hence why my recent stint in the hospital and limited to 3G and weak 4G at times had crappy video at best cause it peaked it out instead of being able to crank it down.

Before when we were in the hospital (version 4.6-4.7 using browsers with flash only), I watched for 3 months over a mediocre 3G, to the tune of 200G/month or something (gota love unlimited) no problems. down-clocking it a bit to smooth the video. Sure it wasn't a perfect picture. Better then the 3 channels at the hospital and while sitting on the 'Father couch' in the farthest corner of the room.

Anyhow, it's obvious the bitrate is locked. I also tried changing the trans-coding method with a different bitrade mode for FFMPEG also and that didn't work. Seems locked somehow in the java module itself. If you need help with this Sindre, the video is what I'm all passionate about and I'm a MTS (Member of Technical Staff) Software Engineer myself. Not as much Java (Perl/PHP here) but I do Java now and again. I wouldn't mind getting dirty to help. These types of problems however are exactly part of my forte. Setting up simple configurations and adjustable systems, etc. without 'hardcoding' things like that to end up in the kitty like this. Still, I just got out of the hospital and have to get the house back in order.. Going to take a few weeks to get life going again. I even tried PLEX but holy crap that's a pile of bleh loaded with more fluff and garbage. I love Subsonic's cleanliness... Although it's lately developed a few bugs and directory reading issues even. Anyhow, just throwing the offer. I can provide an actual resume obviously but I'm an old fart, dieing rather quickly... Might have a few useful ideas for ya where you're a bit more focused on music, I'm very much focused on videos.
