cannot connect on private network

Postby populus » Sun Dec 29, 2013 9:33 pm

I am a new subsonic user. I want to stream music from my pc to my new nexus 7. I can access subsonic from the host pc using firefox and play my music. But I can't connect to the subsonic server over my private network, using either another pc or the nexus 7. Canyousee.org sees the subsonic port on the host no problem. What I have done:

-installed subsonic on pc following installation instructions, then followed directions on http://monroeworld.com/android/subsonic/ for the following steps
-set port on console to 8081
-set up server name in network panel, got "responded successfully notification"
-Set up static IP address for the host using directions from portforward.com. confirmed ip address both using ipconfig in command line and on the router page
-set up port forwarding on the router using port 8081
-set windows firewall to allow subsonic (and subsonic elevated) through on private networks
-set up inbound rules on windows firewall to allow traffic to port 8081 on both tcp and udp
-uninstalled and reinstalled the latest versions of Java for 32 and 64 bit browsers
-restarted pc
-restarted router after 5 minutes powered down and uplugged
-tested demo server connection on the nexus, this test succeeded
-got "could not connect" errors from both a windows laptop and the nexus 7 when attempting the http://myname.subsonic.org address

The host is an HP pavilion running windows 7 64 bit with 8gb of ram
Nexus 7 is the 2013 16 gb version

I would welcome any suggestions on where to look for the problem or what to try next. Subsonic gets great reviews and I'd really like to try it!

On the N7, try http:// localserverIP:8081 (eg. http://192.168.0.7:8081) rather than .org addy. Any luck?

Thank you alphawave, that did the trick. Music is now playing perfectly...
