Is Subsonic the right product? Looking for a way to allow 4-8 clients listen to audio files from a server . Over WiFi would be best. The clients would be android or iOS smartphones. The system would work if all had to listen to the same file simultaneously (no individual control just like a radio broadcast). It would be better if each of the clients could select and control what they are listening to independently.

Subsonic fulfills these requirements, the limits would be your bandwidth, and your GPU if you have transcoding requirements. I suppose another alternative, but far less controlled, is to do podcasts and publish, and allow the users to use the podcast/rss clients of their choice.
