Slow Movie loads on any device running subsonic app

Postby ahmedia » Tue Jan 07, 2014 4:33 am

Love Subsonic so far, it has solved a ton of problems that I was having with Windows Server 2012. The only problem I am having and need some help with is the movie load times on devices using subsonic app. It will take about 5 min for the movie to start. When you play the movie from the subsonic website it loads quickly. Tried it on a Samsung Galaxy S3, ASUS tablet and a windows phone. Have tried changing the Transcoding to some of the suggested ones from the forums, currently not running transcoding at all. Quality seems to be better with no transcoding. All my movies (currently only 8 movies loaded) are in MP4 format 1080P 3.5 to 5 gigs per movie. In any case, nothing I have done has helped. I have only been using Subsonic for about 2 weeks, and I'm sure its just a setting that I need to do. Please Help!

My server is:
Server 2012 Essentials R2 Build 9600 64 bit (The box is setup as remote)
AMD-FX 6300 6 core 3.50 GHz
16 GB Ram
PNY 2 GB DDR5 Video Card
OS is on 256 GB SSD
The Media in on Four 2 TB HDDs in Raid 5
Network is ASUS 1750 Router
24 port TP Link GB Switch
Everything is on Cat 5e

So with all that said I don't believe its a hardware or network problem. When I load the movie from the server remote web access, it loads immediately.
Again, I'm at a loss on what to do next.

Doing a bump!! Still having some issues. I have looked at my logs and I'm not getting any errors, at least none that I can see anyway. Would like some help please.

That's probably due to the index atom of the mp4 being at the end of the file, which means it won't start streaming right away. There is a util called QTindexswapper2 that will reformat the mp4 and put the index at the front of the file so it can begin streaming immediately.

Here's the link.

Let me know if that worked, I recommend testing with a backup file first.
