Performance issue at 'Checking Database Scheme'

Postby tpereira » Sun Feb 24, 2013 11:06 am

HI,

I have been running subsonic successfully on my raspberry pi using raspbian wheezy for the past 5 months and its been running wonderful. I have a 2TB external drive formatted as ext4 which hosts my music collection of about 9k songs (55gigs). Almost all songs have proper meta data associated with it and subsonic has been successfully showing it on the webpage. My issue is that when starting subsonic, it takes forever to start up. It gets stuck at 'Checking database schema' for more than an hour, though it eventually works. I need help as there is a lot of waiting when bouncing the process. I must mention that I don't usually bounce the process for weeks sometimes as it works fine after this initial hiccup.

My subsonic log -
[2013-02-24 01:57:40,283] INFO DaoHelper - Checking database schema.
[2013-02-24 03:26:38,331] INFO DaoHelper - Done checking database schema.
[2013-02-24 03:26:41,208] INFO VersionService - Resolved local Subsonic version to: 4.7
[2013-02-24 03:26:53,585] INFO MediaScannerService - Automatic media library scanning scheduled to run every 2 day(s), starting at Mon Feb 25 03:00:00 GMT 2013
[2013-02-24 03:26:58,400] INFO PodcastService - Automatic Podcast update scheduled to run every 24 hour(s), starting at Sun Feb 24 03:31:58 GMT 2013

Additional info -
Version 4.7 (build 3105) – September 11, 2012
Server jetty-6.1.x, java 1.6.0_27, Linux (57.6 MB / 73.5 MB)

I really love this software and i have been using this along with iSub app a lot which works wonderfully on iTouch. I would really appreciate any help with this. Is there any performance tune up I am missing?

EDIT: By the way, the full media folders scan takes about 20mins.
Regards.

I have the exactly same setup with subsonic and the raspberry pi. I just discovered, that my subsonic has the same problem:
[2013-03-10 21:31:25,655] INFO DaoHelper - Checking database schema.
[2013-03-10 22:44:51,551] INFO DaoHelper - Done checking database schema.

Any help/fix would be appreciated! However as I rarely reboot subsonic, it is not such a critical issue.
BTW: thank a lot for Subsonic, it really revolutionized the way I handle my music!

As an update to my post, I have found that if I run the 'clean up database' option in settings, this issue temporarily goes away and bouncing the subsonic process is pretty quick after this (though you must remember to clean up the database prior to bouncing). However it returns after a few days, possibly after the media library is scanned a few times. Does this mean the database becomes sluggish overtime even though there are no significant changes in the media library?

Did you ever find a way to fix this? I just installed Subsonic on my Pi and it takes a very long time to check database schema. I'm running Tomcat7 on Java 7 hard float, which I thought would improve performance, but this is almost unbearable.
