I think we had one user post that he was unable to get his installation to scan more than 1.5 million tracks.
When you say you have 4 large folders, the description is too vague to make any intelligent conclusions regarding performance. If you have only 4 folders with thousands of tracks just thrown into each folder, then you will see severely degraded performance. The ideal configuration is to have numerous folders with a small number of tracks in each folder.
Typically, you want to organize your library in a \Artist\Album\tracks structure that enables the database to operate efficiently. Just having a \Music folder with thousands of tracks in it will severely degrade performance.
Hardware is also a key factor. More CPU, ram, and fast hard drives are all involved. Then of course, network performance and internet connection speeds impact responsiveness as well.
So, the best I can conclude from the information provided would be that as long as you have fewer than 1.5 million tracks, you should be fine if you have decent hardware and have your music well organized.
