best practices for updating

hello all I was just wondering whats the best way to update my windows based subsonic server. Last time i did it I lost all my users

Stop the subsonic service.

Make a backup copy of C:\Subsonic to a safe location.

Do the upgrade.

If it fails for any reason you will be able to revert to the previous version and just recopy the data directory. Always stop the service first then do any copying. Then just restart the service. Failure to do so will frequently cause errors.
