Change Subsonic Default User

Postby MR. Pockets » Tue Aug 19, 2014 4:03 pm

I have just installed Subsonic on Ubuntu Server 14.04 but am having trouble changing the default user so Subsonic is not running as root.
When I opened /etc/default/subsonic there was no "DEFAULT_USER=" string, so I tried adding it and setting it to "subsonic" (I have added that user). I then restarted the subsonic service. However, when I log into the web interface to set things up, I am still receiving the warning that Subsonic is running as root. How do I change the user?

If it makes a difference, I followed this guide to install - http://www.bestubuntu.com/subsonic-musi ... 12-04.html

Subsonic Version:
4.9 (build 3819) – January 23, 2014

Server:
jetty-6.1.x, java 1.7.0_55, Linux (34.1 MB / 48.7 MB)

Platform:
Ubuntu Server 14.04

DEFAULT_USER is not a parameter. You need to use something like:

Code: Select all
SUBSONIC_USER=www-data

It should be at the bottom of the /etc/default/subsonic file

Thank you for your quick reply. I deleted
Code: Select all
DEFAULT_USER=subsonic
added
Code: Select all
SUBSONIC_USER=subsonic
and restarted the subsonic service but I'm still getting the warning.

When I first opened it, the file did not have any parameters in it other than
Code: Select all
SUBSONIC_ARGS="--max-memory=100"

The current contents of /etc/default/subsonic are
Code: Select all
#
# This is the configuration file for the Subsonic service
# (/etc/init.d/subsonic)
#
# To change the startup parameters of Subsonic, modify
# the SUBSONIC_ARGS variable below.
#
# Type "subsonic --help" on the command line to read an
# explanation of the different options.
#
# For example, to specify that Subsonic should use port 80 (for http)
# and 443 (for https), and use a Java memory heap size of 120 MB, use
# the following:
#
# SUBSONIC_ARGS="--port=80 --https-port=443 --max-memory=120"

SUBSONIC_ARGS="--max-memory=100"
SUBSONIC_USER=subsonic
