"click" before each song in jukebox mode

Postby ZombyWoof » Wed Apr 24, 2013 5:18 pm

I get a click right before a song starts in jukebox mode. Does this with MP3z, Flacs, and WAV files. I don't get it from my internal soundcard but through my USB connected DAC. This happens even with the output of the DAC connected to a battery powered headphone amp so it's not related to grounding issue. It happens with two different DACS, a Schiit Modi and an M-Audio Mobile Pre, so it's not related to a specific DAC. I suspect the USB sound stream takes a hit between songs causing the DAC to slip. Happens even when the internal soundcard is disabled so only sound device is the DAC. Does not happen with LogitechMusicServer in jukebox mode on the same setup. I replaced OpenJDK 1.6 with OracleJava 1.7, made no difference on the clicks, it does run a little faster though.

hdw: Foxconn MoBo w/ Atom processor, 4G Ram, Schiit Modi DAC
OS: VortexBox Distro, Fedora 17, Oracle Java 1.7

I posted this in another thread but since it may not be related I am starting a new thread.

I have searched the forum and searched Java forums. No mention of a fix for this 'clicking between songs' problem.

SOLVED: I switched to a client / server solution. MPD works wonderfully and doesn't require Java.
Coupled with Voyage Linux it uses very little resources and runs like a champ.

So, it's been over a year. I'll post the question again.
