Using Subsonic Jukebook - improve sound quality?

Postby jonathanroz » Mon Aug 03, 2009 3:44 pm

So I grabbed an old Dell D600 laptop and installed Subsonic on it (Running XP).

I have a headphone jack to RCA adapter going to my home stereo and now I can choose music from subsonic using any of my PCs or my phone.

Everything works great except..... the sound quality is not all that great. It sounds very flat... not much of a range in sound (no base or mids) and my stereo sounds great off the CD player. I imagine most of that is just the onboard sound card and drivers.

Anyone else do this and have any ideas? Perhaps there is a good Equalizer program or something to help out?

I had a lot of the same issue and actually thought for a long time it was my speakers that was causing this after I moved between cities with them. Then I started playing around with the equalizer in winamp and managed to get it all back to the way it was before. Never found out what it was that caused the change though.

You could give it a try..
Currently without Subsonic due to hardware failure :(

I just remembered I had a USB Sound card I was using on an ubuntu machine I didnt have anymore. It is a "Turtle Beach Audio Advantage Micro" and it came with an audio equalizer program.

Just installed it and made things 100% better. I think I paid around $20 6 months ago so it might be a good option for others.....

Now I just need to invite some friends over, crack a beer and show off that I can change songs with my phone :)

Thanks again Sindre!!

Jigsaw.

I did install winamp like you suggested but I am not sure if there is a way to utilize winamp when in jukebox mode. It looks like Subsonic sends the music directly to the sound device.

Did you figure out a way to send it via winamp? I know if you are listening on the pc where you are accessing subsonic from you can choose to use an external player, but not sure if you can do anything like that when in jukebox mode and controlling the server.

Honestly I have not used the jukebox feature at any degree yet so I do not know if that always plays with the flash player or if it can use external player on the subsonic server..? If the latter is true I would suppose the winamp equalizer would work....
