Flash Player Tries To Download Instead of Play

Postby c0c0c0 » Mon Apr 13, 2015 4:30 pm

I've been having trouble using the Flash player in Chrome for a while. It kept trying to play everything in a VLC plugin. So, I've took the cheap path and just started using Firefox instead. Today, I started running into the same issue.

To get it to stop trying to use VLC, I went into Apps in Firefox and set all the of the media types that were using VLC to use ask me, instead. There wasn't any option for Flash. The immediate result is that it tried to down load anything I tried to play as a local M3U file. There were some apps in the dialog I could use, instead, but none were in the browser.

Did the same thing in Chrome. Disabled the VLC plugin. Again, now I'm simply prompted to download the play list.

I can still access my Subsonic server just fine with other applications, and even in a browser (with Jamstache), but not with the integrated Flash player.

This sounds like a browser issue, not a Subsonic issue, but I'm out of ideas on how to make the browser use flash to play music in the Subsonic GUI. Anyone else have any ideas?

I am having this exact same issue, but it is not a browser problem. At first I thought that it was an issue with Flash running on Chromium on Ubuntu 14.4
However, I had the same thing happen on Firefox. Then I came to work, and Chrome, as well as Firefox on Windows does the same thing now.
In addition, while I can see the artist names in my list, as well as the album art, NONE of artists will show the sub folders of their albums, nor will any of the songs show up. (I am very organized with Artists -> Full Albums -> songs) I can see podcasts, but only if I go in through 'Podcasts" at the top, and not on the left, and even then I can't play any of them because of the same issue with the Flash player.
I see that no one has responded to this, so I wanted to simultaneously ask for any input or feedback on this/these issues, as well as bump your post and let you know that the issue is not browser, or operating system related, as I am having it on multiple browsers and OS's.

By "browser related", I was theorizing that it was rooted in client config rather than server config. I encounter the issue in both Chrome and Firefox, as well. Since the issue became evident without any changes on the server, I must've done something unexpected with the client.

Pure guess work, of course.

I figured it out. Somehow, the Player for the web site was set (in Settings | Players) to "External player with playlist". I changed it to "Web player" and everything was back to normal.

I don't go in there with any regularity, so I can't imagine how it got set that way.
