(FIXED!) Sudden connection problem...

Postby ericandmirna » Mon Oct 05, 2015 4:51 pm

Hoping someone can help figure out the sudden connection problem I'm experiencing...

Problem Description: Sudden inability to connect to my subsonic server. Getting "Error when contacting the Subsonic server. HTTP error 0" Also seeing "Error when contacting the Subsonic server. Http error 404" This started two to three weeks ago. I have made no changes to my server (that I'm aware of, I have a 4 year old that may have accidentally screwed something up). Perhaps my router was updated (Verizon Fios service)???
Troubleshooting Steps: Tried uninstalling and reinstalling Subsonic. I don't think I deleted everything though, as when I reinstalled Subsonic, my media file was already entered in the Subsonic network settings. Also tried running the latest Beta version of Subsonic. I don't know what else to try!
Playback Application and version: Using Jamstash for work and DSub for Android
Subsonic Version: 5.2.1 (build 4428) – March 4, 2015
Server Version: jetty-6.1.x, java 1.8.0_60
Hardware Platform: Windows 7 64 bit SP1
Java Memory Limit: 150MB
Problem Filename:
Output from ffmpeg -i: Says 'ffmpeg' is not recognized?

Re: Sudden connection problem...

Postby ericandmirna » Mon Oct 05, 2015 6:25 pm

So I'm seeing that S1000 is a db issue. I uninstalled Subsonic, deleted everything Subsonic related from my pc, reinstalled with the same problem. On the Subsonic network settings tab it's showing "Status: Could not connect to ericandmirna.subsonic.org. (ConnectTimeoutException)". Could this problem be on Subsonic's side?

are you able to browse thru http://localhost? or from internal LAN network thru private IP such as 192.168.x.x? You should at least be able to browse thru localhost.

Thanks for responding!
Yes, I am able to browse through localhost. Now my Network settings shows "Status: Successfully registered web address."
I'm stumped and frustrated as this problem came out of nowhere.

I don't have a clear understanding of why it happens but Java updates seem to close down subsonic but leave open the database which inevitably gets corrupted. Anytime a Java update comes by we start to get s1000 errors in the forum. The easiest thing to do is to backup your settings. db file and store it somewhere safe so you can easily restore subsonic after a db failure.

I will for sure back up my settings, if I can get Subsonic working again... Java updating was the first thing I thought of when the problem began because I hadn't made any changes to the server. Everything looks like it's working fine on the server, no more error messages. But I'm still getting "0" and "404" errors remotely with Jamstash.
What other solutions can I try at this point?

Supposing it works on the server, begin testing remote access. Try public IPort first, to ensure SS is indeed broadcasting, then try your chosen SS server name to see if the redirect server has an updated IP from you. Report back.

What's the public IP port? Am I trying this remotely or on the server pc?
Sorry if these are seemingly simple questions, but some of this stuff goes right over my head.

You can use whatsmyip.com to get your public IP, then add your port to that eg. 428.x.x.x:4040 and see if the web interface responds. If so, try again using your 'easy to remember' server address. Chances are if public works but redirect doesn't, you've had a change to your public IP and it hasn't updated yet on the redirect server, which can take a day or two.

This indicates a firewall or router that needs the port reopened (4040). Reboot router and check after making any changes.

Fixed! I forgot that I had to set the port to 8080 about a 1 year ago (with a similar issue now that I think about it). While looking through router settings I noticed the server pc was showing 8080. Reset port to 8080 in SS control panel, restarted everything and all is well again. Big thanks for the assistance!!!
