Windows / Linux hosting

Postby FalseTetrabyte » Wed Oct 12, 2016 5:43 pm

Hey all, I'm not sure how to ask this - my searches aren't turning anything up.

I wanted to dink around with Subsonic on Linux, so I fired up a VM with CentOS 7 and installed Subsonic successfully. I changed the user the instance runs under (instead of Root) and got the web interface working, however I have *no* idea how to tell Subsonic to look at a Windows host for the actual media files. The Windows host is a Server 2012 R2 running in a Windows Domain - I can browse the share in question from Cent OS natively just fine, however the configuration for the media folders I'm scratching my head. Every single item I put into the field results in "Folder Not Found" on the Media Folders tab. I've tried both \\files\media as well as \\192.168.0.3\media as well as smb://files/media and smb://192.168.0.3/Media and these don't work either.

The files in question that I need are under \\files\Media\Audio\MP3s and the \\files host is at 192.168.0.3

How would I notate that in the "Add Media Folder" option in Subsonic's browser interface?

Figured out what I was doing wrong - forgetting the cardinal rule in creating a mount point on a Linux file system.

Back on the CentOS system, I ran the command to make a new directory on my user account

mkdir mp3s

The path to this folder is /home/myname/mp3s

Next, mount the remote file system to the new folder on CentOS:

mount -t cifs -o username=myname //192.168.0.3/Media /home/myname/mp3s

After hitting enter, and entering my password in the konsole window when prompted, I switched back to the browser I had open and entered /home/myname/mp3s for the path to the data.

I enabled fast access mode since the data is on a network share and saved the settings.

Now we're cookin' with gas.

Posted this response in case anyone else needs the same advice, or I forget and need to reference later. ;)

Edit - Following up stating that I'm happily listening to the new server after opening up my firewall ports. My old Subsonic install uses a separate port, so I can technically switch between the two at any time to see which one I prefer. :)
