Troubleshooting tips for scanning stuck

Subsonic has worked flawlessly for me for several years. Now though problems keep piling up for some reason. I moved to running subsonic on top of tomcat on ubuntu. I have a booksonic server running on the same server without problems. Now however subsonic corrupted itself somehow so that tomcat refused to start the app. Subsonic did start after I cleared the data directory. Now subsonic runs but the nightly scan gets stuck at the same file 29265 even though log files say that the scan has completed. Where can I begin to troubleshoot this?
