Not finding new folders

Postby dukiethecorgi » Sat Dec 17, 2016 9:46 pm

Installed, did initial scan, everything working fine. Added a couple new folders under my main music folder. Scanner does not see these folders - tried cleaning up the database, start and stop the service, etc. Nada.

I stopped the service, deleted the database files (except for subsonic.script). Restarted, let it do the initial scan, found everything (including the new folders) just fine. Since it had no problem the second time, I assume the permissions, mp3 tags, etc were all good.

So what do I have to do to have it add new files on a update scan? Any ideas?

Just copy any new files into the mediafolder(s) you have defined.
All you need to do is make sure that the account that's running the Subsonic service has acces to all your mediafolders.

Yeah, I know that....

It just won't pickup any NEW folders or songs after the initial scan. If I delete the database and force it to scan, it picks up everything fine, so I don't see how it's a permissions issue or a tags problem.

And here's something interesting.

All my music is arranged in a share "Music" with a folder structure Artist -Album with Album containing the songs. I used this for my 'Media Folder' - \\NAS3\Music The initial scan works fine, everything gets picked up. Adding a new folder under root for Artist - Album does NOT get picked up in a new scan. If I add a new Media folder \\NAS3\music\<new folder> and it's picked up instantly, I can access everything fine. If I delete that new media folder, the original main Media Folder now has the missing artist.

Very Strange

Running Windows server I have all my files under Music\A\Artistname, Music\B\Artistname, etc.
If I add a new artist Subsonic finds all the albums on the next folderscan I perform.
I even tried adding a folder VIDEO with about 120 video files in it and Sunsonic had no problem picking them up and showing them in the index.
So one of us is doing something wrong and it looks like it's not me.

That's really helpful  Look, it's not rocket science, it's just creating some subfolders, there's no user error in that. The difference between what you are doing and what I am doing is that you're using a share on a windows server, I'm using a WD NAS. If I create a windows share, drop some music there, create a Media Share, it works perfectly and DOES pick up any changes on a new scan.

I found this thread (viewtopic.php?f=2&t=16628&p=71685#p71685) where the developer says

Subsonic uses the last-modified timestamp of a directory to determine if it needs rescanning.

So there's something going on where the indexer is not seeing a folder as new or changed because of something going on in the filesystem of the NAS. I found the API docs will poke around a bit.

I'm running Subsonic on a virtual machine and the mediafolders are on a share.
So my mediafolders are configured like:
\\server\media\A
\\server\media\B
Subsonic has no problem indexing the mediafolders and discovering new folders.
