Sloooow 6.1

Postby audiosteve » Mon May 29, 2017 10:05 pm

Hi All,

My System SSD died so I had to rebuild the system and installed Subsonic 6.1.

The initial scan is UNBEARABLY SLOW
The start up is unbearably slow.
It takes a number of minutes after rebooting to be able to access the web page.
I have been scanning my files for almost four hours now and it went OK for a while but is now scanning at a crawl.
I have about 1.2 TB if files.
I left to go to the store about two hours ago and it was at file 43741. It's now at 43804 and has been there since I got home.

Nothing like this ever happened with the older version I had installed.

Pertinent info on current install:

Subsonic 6.1 (build 7bb157) – May 18, 2017
java-1.8.0-openjdk
sqlite 3.11.0-3.fc23

Fedora 23 Linux 4.8.13-100.fc23.x86_64 on x86_64
2G of memory, 3.6G of virtual memory (using about 29% of physical memory, using next to no virtual)
Atom 330 @ 1.6 GHZ

In Webmin subsonic process shows the following:

MEM says 3.76 GB CPU 95.7 % java -Xmx150m -Dsubsonic.home=/var/subsonic -Dsubsonic.host=0.0.0.0 -Dsubsonic.p ...'
This reported memory utilization does not add up with the system and system virtual mem usaage. Is this a clue?

So WTF ??? Scanning to build a new DB used to take minutes. Now I'm pushing 4 hours with no end in sight. Can anyone offer any tips to fix this??
Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Thanks,
Steve

One other clue. The scan count seems to be stuck but drive activity LED is blinking at about a constant 2 Hz rate.
Once again, thanks in advance for any tips or help.

openjdk may be the issue. I would use the Sun version.

Thanks alphawave7, I found the Sun (oracle) java package jdk-8u131-linux-x64.rpm and it helped but no final joy jet.

I uninstalled the original open Java andinstalled the Oracle java.
The system is definitely snappier. But....
I started a re-scan and it went relatively quickly until hitting the previous wall of 43804. Then it hung.
So I stopped subsonic, deleted all but the script file in the subsonic/db folder and restarted.
Then started a scan again.
It went much faster. So Oracle Java is definitely an improvement.

But..... it hit the first wall at 43785. I expect after some number of hours it will hang permanently at a number north of 43804.
Any ideas? I know enough to be dangerous but not to fix this. An fsck revealed no issues with the file system.
Does VB 6.1 need much more memory than 6.0? Could this be my problem?

Thanks again in advance for any help

I reverted to 6.0 and it completed the initial file scan successfully.
