video playback on Android phone

My library contains both music and video content... on my PC I can play back all content just fine, but on my phone only the audio content shows up and is playable... and, I seem to recall at one time being able to play video from my phone.... I'm wondering if some android update killed some features of the android phone player.... can you give me any direction on this? Thanks
