Search for songs and add to playlist

Postby rvdbijl » Thu Feb 01, 2018 2:05 pm

Hello,

New user of Subsonic, and trying to figure out the best way to search my library for tracks to add to playlists.
If I browse the library through Index, and then find an album with some songs I want to add, I know I can check the boxes next to the song and choose Add to Playlist from the dropdown. But if I search for a song/artist/album, the search results don't have that checkbox next to them.
Am I missing something, or is there a different way to do that? It's cumbersome to browse for a song to add to a playlist through the tree if I am not sure which album it's on for instance. Then the search is a much faster way to find it.

Thanks!

It is a little tedious to use search. Basically you can + them to add them to the play queue in the lower window, and then check them to add them to the playlist from there. This part is frustrating in a second way because you can't easily make that frame bigger to be able to read it all, so you're having to scroll within it. Unfortunately for now that's the only way.

Thanks for your reply. I was afraid that was the only option..
Are there any playlist managers that will "plug in" to Subsonic that would allow more flexible playlist editing? Are there any improvements planned to the playlist handling?
Subsonic works great, and does a phenomenal job of sorting through my 30k songs and playing them on my phone, but the playlist handling is pretty archaic / atrocious.. ;)
Coming from Spotify (and being annoyed that my music keeps disappearing on there when there is a tiff with the artist/label), I was hoping for a bit more. I also did try Madsonic, Plex and Ampache. Madsonic is horrendously buggy, Plex can't handle 30k songs without locking up my system and Ampache didn't recognize any of my music files.

Subsonic doesn't have a plug-in architecture. Only external apps at this time. I maintain one of the few that is designed to be something other than a player (SubFire Radio).

I have sketched out and started prototyping a full playlist editor, two-column with drag-n-drop (the left is where you're browsing or searching, the right is your playlist, and it would include sorting capabilities and a simple player w/ chromecast), but I needed a better architecture to do that well, which I'm working on (as I type this, in fact).

That would be a really nice feature to have. Is that something you're thinking of adding to your SubFire Radio? Or something stand-alone?

It would be great to have a drag & drop type organization of the playlist. Like being able to grab a song and move it to another spot in the playlist, etc. Or in your "commander" style interface, pull it from one pane and drop it in the other. And having the source pane be driven by browsing or search results would be the way to go.

I look forward to your implementation of that! I'm a software engineer myself, but lack the time to spend on stuff like this (plus my forte is in low level C++ realtime, not java and related web technologies).

It would be standalone, but Radio-aware (as in, by default it would filter out radio-station playlists so you don't do things that would be undone later). As the pieces all get set the same host, saved configuration information would persist (on your browser, not in any server of mine), so you could switch from one app to the other and it would remember your servers...at least, that's the goal.

For SubFire Radio, I'd like to add a search-and-add feature for Internet Radio Stations using Shoutcast, Dirble, or other similar libraries out there.
