Discolored album art

Postby bupkis » Mon Aug 28, 2017 10:01 am

I'm finding that lots of my album art is showing up discolored greenish in thumbnail views (and therefore also in iOS clients). This is using 6.1.1.

So, for example, several of the album covers here are discolored:

If I click on the thumbnail, though, the art is correctly colored:

Redownloading the cover art from a different source still leaves the thumbnail discolored even with browser cache disabled. It happens in every browser I've tried it with and in all mobile clients (play:Sub, iSub).

It seems to affect albums at random though once they become discolored they don't change back.

I've searched around but found no references to this problem. Anyone know what might be causing it or how to fix it?

Looking through
Code: Select all
/var/subsonic/thumbs
, I see that the discolored covers are in there. But I can still see no rhyme or reason to why or how they became discolored.

If I delete all thumbs, will they regenerate?

They should. However, they may still end up 'backwards'.

The inverted colors are (technical explanation here) due to "big-endian/little-endian" issues. The library that Subsonic uses for jpeg processing sometimes doesn't seem to pay attention to that detail in the file's encoding. Sometimes my only solution was to go hunt down a new copy of the image from a different source.

Last.fm's files seem to be more consistent than the web-random ones that showed up back when the Google search was working for 4.x and 5.x.

Thanks, acroyear.

Is there no fix for this? I've been replacing images but the thumbs remain stubbornly discolored.

It's on a Hetzner box (Xeon E3-1245) running Ubuntu 14.04.5.

Can anyone tell me for sure whether deleting contents of /var/subsonic/thumbs will force Subsonic to regenerate them?

I've had this problem and usually the discolored album artwork happens to me when the album artwork is high res/high file size. I know this is a super old post, but in case anyone stumbles upon this problem via the search, simply finding a smaller res version of the artwork has worked for me. Just be sure to delete the thumbs folder so the covers regenerate.
