Is there a way to listen to SubSonic using Apple's CarPlay?

Postby spdorsey » Tue May 23, 2017 3:00 am

The head unit that shipped with my truck is garbage, and I am replacing it with a Pioneer unit that allows me (through an HDMI connection) to use Waze on the screen with controls. (That's a pretty high priority for me).

I have unlimited data with my grandfathered AT&T account, and I typically stream my 50,000+ track collection to listen to music in my car. It works well.

With my new installation, my iPhone cannot be visible and available on the dash. It will live inside the glove compartment. That means I cannot access my AV Sub interface to use SubSonic. If I use SubSonic, it must be through the in-dash CarPlay interface.

What are my options for listening to my SubSonic collection?

Thanks!

I found with my new car, bluetooth streams from my iphone to my car stereo but does not display album covers. When I connect my phone via USB cable, Carplay displays the Album cover and music streams from phone to stereo but, the phone needs to do all the controls for navigating around your music.

The AVSub iPhone app was updated yesterday 8/22/18 to include CarPlay of cached music. It may not be the perfect situation as you still can't stream your Subsonic library but only play cache. However I tested it yesterday on iPhone7 and 2019 Jetta SEL CarPlay and it worked great with the Shuffle and repeat modes included.

+1 for AVSub as an answer. That feature is new, and the developer is responsive.
