Either something has gone really wrong when you were installing Subsonic or you have a serious problem with another application(s).
I've been using Subsonic-server for a couple of years now on different machines which were all very less powerfull than your machine, according to the specs you gave.
Subsonic never slowed one of the machines down.
I'm now running Subsonic on a pc with an Intel I3 cpu and 16 GB ram. My mediacollection is 1,5 TB music files.
This pc is also a Hyper-V host with 3 virtual machines running. Each of these VM's is running an internetbroadcasting program 24/7.
Everything runs with no problems and no freezes or halting or interruptions.
So I suggest that you first have a look at what's installed and running on your pc. Perhaps even a thorough Virus scan?
Because there's no way that Subsonic is stressing your machine to the extend you described if it is installed properly.
