Changing location of cache on Android app

Postby jekopsch » Wed Jun 29, 2022 6:58 pm

I have searched the forum for instructions on how to change the location of the cache for the Subsonic app for Android. Similar questions been asked by others, but I have not seen any satisfactory responses.

What I am trying to accomplish is moving my entire music collection into the Subsonic cache location on my Android device to that I can manually keep the files on the local device instead of streaming. I am shutting down my self-hosted Subsonic server due to problems with getting hacked, so I would like to simply continue using the Subsonic app for Android for listening to my music collection by manually copying the files to the device. I can't seem to get the files copied to the default location (I'm guessing because of file permissions for that directory). Is there any way to adjust the default storage location on the Subsonic Android app?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am not an Android phone person, so this may be an easy reply to ignore :-)

If just moving off the App focused on Streaming isn't an option, I *think* that a manual cache load wouldn't work as expected, unless you were able to store the files using whatever object ID that either Subsonic identified the asset as, or the app assigns to it. Probably not the structure you would expect - but again, I don't know.

If you were looking to get a more modern Subsonic fork so you can keep using the API, check out Airsonic Advanced https://github.com/airsonic-advanced/airsonic-advanced, looking at changing your port and putting behind SSL. Might resolve your issue and let you keep your app.
