HTTP ERROR 503

First post on this error: 2018 here we are 2022?

We've been busy so have not used it in months but it should still be running. But it is not. Getting a straight up 503

I tried expanding the settings in subsnic.properties as recommended in one of the first posts... no go.

I see no other references to: error in script file line: 14733 java.io.IOException: org.hsqldb.HsqlException: Value too long

It seemed to quit without any changes to the system. It might have cycled during power outage. But I have other servers that have remainedintact. AND this is too similar to other issues I've read in this thread.

What can be done to fix this and improve stability?

I had a subscription for something. Would like of update on that make the system not work? And if so, how would I updte the key without access to the UI?

I tried to delete lines 14733 from the script file, I assume subsonic.script, but no effect.

How do I troubleshoot this. I can't imagine we just re-install without knowing what the problem is. That's the definition of insanity, as the saying goes, doing the same thing but expecting a different outcome...

I've been using Subsonic on Windows 10. After a recent PC crash, it's stopped working. Here's the relevant part of the log I believe:

I believe the "java.sql.SQLException ... out of memory" part is the key error. It appears multiple times in the startup script.

Any ideas?

I was able to fix my issue! I increased the max memory limit (from 150 to 1500 just to be sure that it would work, haha) and that did the job.

Using the Windows installer you can do this in the Settings panel. On Linux you can pass it in as a command line argument.

I don't know if this will help anyone because many posts are from years ago. I was a long-term user of Subsonic and I ended up switching to Navidrome. I've tried other things too but always something seemed lacking. Navidrome served me well until weird anomalies started to irritate me a lot. I decided to see if I could get Subsonic working again with the help of ChatGPT.
The most important thing to know is that Subsonic (6.1.6) is bound to Java 8 and won't play nice with more modern versions. Getting my Subsonic installation working again turned out to be simple, although I doubt I would have worked it out myself. If you don't have Java 8 installed - I did - install openjdk-8-jre. Then simply edit the file /etc/default/subsonic and add the location of the Java 8 programs at the bottom of the file. In my case this is : export JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/java-8-openjdk-amd64/jre . This tells Subsonic to use the Java 8 installation instead of the system-wide one. The rest of your system still uses the default (later) version of Java. Once I did that, I started the Subsonic service and everything had been preserved. All I had to do was scan my music library to find all the new stuff and it all worked again. I am ecstatic.
It made me realise how well-designed Subsonic is and, despite it being no longer developed, is still the gold standard. I can't find a single thing to criticise. Sindre Mehus did what Leo Fender did with electric guitars - he got it right from the beginning.
