After uploading, file "disappeared"

I hadn't taken advantage of the file upload feature until today. I grabbed a file off a website while at work, and uploaded it to c:\lobby\music\band - song.mp3 on my HTPC.

From there, it appeared within Subsonic and I thought all was good.

On the drive home, I wanted to listen to the song, so I fired up the Android app. For some reason, though, I couldn't find the song, either by searching or scrolling down through my list of music.

I got home, and as my music drive on the HTPC is shared, looked at where I'd expected the file to be via my laptop. To my surprise, the file wasn't there.

I went into the HTPC via VNC, wanting to investigate further. I did a full system file search on the HTPC for the band name, and it found the file exactly where I'd saved it originally.

So, now I had open the VNC window showing the folder with the file in it, and the same folder being viewed via network share on my laptop without the file in it. Magic!?

I copied, cut/paste, renamed, write-protected, hid/un-hid the file, and nothing seemed to make it "visible" when viewed in the network share or the Android app. I ended up deleting the file and re-downloading it with my laptop to the shared network drive. It was then visible to all devices.

Has anyone seen this behavior before? For what it's worth, the file was originally downloaded, then uploaded to Subsonic, on XP; the HTPC and laptop are Vista machines, and the phone's the Samsung Moment (Android 1.5).

I suspect this not more magic than the rest of windows network dubious behaviour. maybe it works, but if it doesnt who knows why...
Especially when vnc shows the file (which uses a non-microsoft protocol) and windows network doesnt, sounds just like it.

A point in the other direction, a zip file grabbed from the work PC and uploaded to Subsonic seems to have worked fine, and is appearing in Android...I'll check the laptop when I get home but the fact that it's appearing on the phone app is a good sign.
