Can't get it working for external access

Hi. I'm running Windows 7, have a Netgear WGR614 v7 router, and am completely mystified as to what I'm doing wrong here.

I've changed the port in Subsonic several times; the control panel is now configured to use port number 8000. I have set this port to be forwarded on my router, like so:



That is the correct IP, as well. Subsonic claims to be successfully forwarding the port, but as you can see, it's giving me a ConnectTimeoutException:



I am using Windows Firewall, and it says it's allowing Subsonic to do whatever it pleases. Since it's not working, I added an additional rule just to be sure, but it makes no difference:



I can access it fine using localhost. I can access it using the internal IP 192.168.1.2. I cannot access it using the x.subsonic.org address nor using my external IP. I'm officially out of ideas. Any help would be appreciated.

I'd check the settings on whatever firewall/av/security suite you are running on top of the normal windows firewall(assuming that you are running one), that should be the only thing left that's blocking it on your computer.

As an aside, some ISP's don't like you using certain port numbers and will intentionally block them, try using a #30000+ number.

I'm not running any additional firewall software. Switched to port 36000, nothing changed.

You mention using several ports. Have you tried port 80 which is the port used by servers for "listening" to web clients?

Yeah, port 80 was the first one I tried.

Have you tried disabling Windows Firewall temporarily to see if that's the culprit? Everything looks fine to me the way you have things setup .. I'm sure it's something simple.

Have you donated? this is required to make the yourname.subsonic.org to work.

If you've got more than one network card subsonic some times gets confused
and do nor know which network address so bind to.

I'd also consider changing the IP address to your computer.
Normally IP addresses ending with .1 and .2 are reserved to your router.

The error message using the subsonic.org address is the same as the one using my external IP: connection timed out. I haven't donated, but Subsonic tells me I can use the x.subsonic.org address until August 3 anyway (and not being able to use that address wouldn't explain why using the external IP doesn't work, either).

I have only one network card. And the .2 IP address was assigned by my router.

What about AntiVirus? Many will block "unusual" ports by default. Try disabling EVERYthing. It's being blocked by something.

No difference with antivirus disabled.

Can you try a different web browser? Can you lower your web browser security settings for testing purposes?

Can you ping www.x.subsonic.org? If not, perhaps there is a DNS issue?
Try flushing your dns resolver cache --> ipconfig /flushdns

This one might be grasping at straws a little bit, but I once had a situation where I could not access a couple of specific web addresses. 99% of all other url's would be just fine. It turned out to be related to the mtu. Rather than explain it, take a look at this ... http://www.dslreports.com/faq/5793

It doesn't work on any browser I've tried. That includes IE8, Firefox, Opera, Chrome and the default browser on an HTC Incredible.

I'm regretting bringing x.subsonic.org into this to begin with. The fact that I can't access the subsonic.org address is nearly irrelevant, because I can't access Subsonic using my external IP address. I'm also guessing two computers and a cell phone aren't having the exact same issues. The problem has to be with the program or the installation/computer it's installed on, and I feel like I've checked and changed everything on the computer that could affect it.
