On page 5-16 look at figure 5-6

Go to that screen on the router. From the router admin homepage, on the left column under "Advanced" click on "Port Forwarding/Port Triggering".

Click on the button at the bottom "Add Custom Service"

Enter:

Service: Subsonic

Protocol: Select TCP (you do not need UDP for SS)

Enter the same port number into the starting and ending port # blocks - the port number that Subsonic is listening to. (Default on Windows is 4040)

Server ip address: Enter the INTERNAL ip address of the host that has Subsonic installed. (192.168.1.X X = where your server is, if you don't know, open a command prompt on the server and type ipconfig /all)

Click Apply

Test using canyouseeme.org to check that the port is open and responding from the internet.

If you are going to use SSL then you'll have do do the same thing for that port - 4443 is the SS default for Windows. I'd try to get it running without the SSL first - then if it works add in SSL later if you want to use it.

Enjoy Subsonic

Listen to some relaxing tunes to reward youself for all your hard work.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Aw man. I was up till 6am last night trying to figure it out. Not good on my teeth with all the grinding! Lol
So internal. Thats the ip of the pc that subsonic is installed on right?
Ive been putting in the static ip that i made.

Your server is installed on a host machune that gets an INTERNAL ip address from the router. If your not sure what it is, open a command prompt and type ipconfig /all to get the readout. It should be 192.168.1.X or something similar.

That's the address that you're going to input into the router port forwarding screen so it knows whcih PC is listening on that port.

In effect, you're telling the router that any request from the internet for , let's say 4040, is to be sent to the ip address of the PC hosting Subsonic.

That's how the router translates the external address and passes it to the correct PC.

NAT - Network Address Translation.

Ok so this is what ive been doing.
I have the router set up to bang out 2.4g and 5g signal set up with passwords.

Then i get a static ip. I used the the program from portfawarding.com.
My computers ip was 192.168.1.6 and it changed it to 192.168.1.60.

I bring up the port forwarding page on the router. Stick in the ports i want forwarded along with 192.168.1.60.
80 forwards fine but 4040 or any other port i put in there you can see on canyouseeme.org.

Am i doing skmething wrong?

Go to that screen on the router. From the router admin homepage, on the left column under "Advanced" click on "Port Forwarding/Port Triggering".

Click on the button at the bottom "Add Custom Service"

Enter:

Service: Subsonic

Protocol: Select TCP (you do not need UDP for SS)

Server ip address: Enter the INTERNAL ip address of the host that has Subsonic installed. (192.168.1.60 where your server is, kn open a command prompt on the server and type ipconfig /all to confirm that your server is using the ip you think it is.)

Click Apply

Test using canyouseeme.org to check that the port is open and responding from the internet.

I don't know how to make this any simpler. In the router you need to forward port 4040 to 192.168.1.60 if that is the correct settings as you are telling me. If the server is at 192.168.1.60 and Subsonic is set up to use port 4040, then that's what you enter into the router prot forwarding set up screen.

DO NOT try to use SSL or set up the SSL port until you first get forwarding to 4040 working properly, you'll only confuse yourself.

If you go to the server and open the local instance in the locla browser by right clicking on the green tray icon and select open browser, you can confirm the port that SS is using. As I've explained, if you open a command prompt and type ipconfig /all you can confirm your internal ip address. If the server is at 192.168.1.60 and Subsonic is using port 4040 and you can ipen it from inside your network, then all that's left to do is to forward external requests using the port forwarding in the router so that any request to port 4040 goes to 192.168.1.60

You haven't confirmed or denied many of the steps I've suggested so I can't begin to guess what you are doing wrong.

Does the local instance open using port 4040? What address is displayed in the browser when you open the local instance?

Can you open Subsonic from other systems inside your local network?

What does canyouseeme.org do when you type in 4040?

Ok when i click on localhost:4040 it come up with all my files. I can also view the files on another computer on the network but not on 3g

When i type in 192.168.1.60:4040 in the browser nothing comes up.
Not quite sure what you mean by the local instance.

When i enter 4040 into canyouseeme it says error i could not see your service on 188.221.73.___
On port 4040.
Reason connection timed out.

: shenery Ok think im getting somewhere now. As i was saying. I have the wndr3700 plugged into another netgear router to give me the adsl connection.Think thats my problem. I am signed into both routers now and ive read that you basically take the wan ip from one and put it in to the other and enable dmz. Problem is. There is no wan ip set up for the router and i dont know what to put in for it. Ive put in 192.168.1.60 (static ip) and ig didnt work. Also im not quite sure what router i have to forward the ports on now.Theres old ports on the adsl that i set up over a year ago for subsonic lol. That was before i got the wndr3700.Been putting this off for months because i knew it would of been so hard for me to figure it out.shenery Posts: 14Joined: Sun Sep 16, 2012 2:08 pm

I apologize for overlooking the obvious. Please carefully read my post in the Tutorial section. This can sometimes take a few read throughs in order to master the concepts, but trust me, this is information that you will need as long as you have a home network. You might as well learn it now.

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=4867

Carefully read the second post.

You have what is known as a double NAT situation which will definitely screw the pooch. Only one device on the network can act as the router. If your DSL modem has those functions built in, you have to read the manual for that device and disable port forwarding and DHCP so that it is essentially just a pass through device to your Netgear router. You can find most manuals for any device by Googling the Device Name and Model Such as Netgeqar "WND 3700 pdf"

If you have trouble, let me know the make and model of the modem and I'll read the manual.

Hang in there, we're getting close.

Ok. Im a little comfused to which modem i will be configuring what to. Ill give you a breakdown of my setup.I have a Netgear DG834G Adsl that i am getting internet from. That is connected by ethernet to My Netgear WNDR3700.I then have as you know my usb drive connected to that and i have an ethernet cable coming from the WNDR3700 to the pc ive been working with.Is the set up ok?I tried swapping the ethernet cable that connects to the pc from the wndr3700 back to the dg834g but that screwed up my readyshare as the pc i have doesnt have a wireless card in it on an ethernet port. Its the main pc anyway so id like it to have the faster transfer speeds. Thanks for all your help so far btw

I disabled dhcp on the adls router and deleted all the ports that were forwarded on it. I couldnt find a way to disable port forwarding completely.

Now i dont seem to be getting any internet connection on the pc??

http://www.ehow.com/how_6404938_disable ... ewall.html

Try these instructions.

It might be easier to use the ADSL router for DHCP and firewall and just make the WNDR3700 a wireless access point if the instructions above don't work.

EXACTLY how is your 3700 physically connected to the ADSL router?

OK - a little research says - just connect the ADSL router to the 3700 using an ethernet cable from one of the LAN ports on the modem to a LAN port on the WND3700 DO NOT connect to the WAN port on the 3700.

After you do this, then the DHCP and firewall settings should all be controleed at the modem and the 3700 should just act as a wireless access point.

That's probably the easiest way to get this done.
