First off, the link posted shows how to configure a Linksys WRT54G router for an internet connection that requires a static IP address. What we are talking about is something COMPLETELY different... we are talking about assigning a static IP address to a CLIENT computer (the subsonic server) not the internet connection.
Unfortunately, the Linksys WRT54G does not support DHCP reservations, which is one way to make sure that a computer always has the same IP address, and I believe where Globe199 was going with his advise.
So, instead, let me try to walk you through it.
First of all, I am going to make some assumptions here:
- You have not changed the default settings for the LAN setup on the router
- Your router is performing DNS Proxy functionality
Her's what you need to do:
- Go into your computer's TCP/IP settings and change it from "Obtain an IP address automatically" to "Use the following IP address."
- Use 192.168.1.50 as the IP address
- Use 255.255.255.0 as the subnet mask
- Use 192.168.1.1 as the default gateway
- In the DNS Server boxes, use 192.168.1.1 in the first box and set the second box blank.
- Save the settings. Verify that the subsonic server still has internet access and can talk to the rest of the world.
- Restart the Subsonic service, or restart the computer.
- Go into the router setup, into the port forwarding setup, and change the forwarding for port 4040 and 8080 to forward to 192.168.1.50 instead of 192.168.1.114
- Go into Subsonic and go to the network settings page and click "Save" to re-register your subsonic vanity domain name.
Let me know how it works... and if it doesn't, let me know where it failed.
Hope this helps,
Glenn
