Yes, subsonic.org is currently down. I'm working with the hosting provider to bring it back online asap.

I'm truly sorry for all the inconvenience caused!!

I use the Subsonic basic web-based media streamer

Not a silly question. It typically involves adding a update service to your server, which pings your dynamic service provider. You would set up your account for dyndns-type service and address at any number of providers, (eg. gbfamSubsonic.dyndns.org), download an updater from the provider, and it should work to keep your public IP in sync with the address you desire. You would also want to uncheck the 'Access your server' box in Settings-Network, since you are adding that layer externally. Cheers!

I JUST got the premium service, and this really put a damper on my excitement.

Extremely rare event..I think Google has gone done more frequently! :) Your public IP+port will still work when the redirect host goes down, or you can use an alternate dynamic address service, ala dyndns.org. Cheers!

And like that, it appears to be working!
FWIW, a search suggests it went down twice in 2013, May and November, but for a few hours in each case. Cheers!

I just signed up with Duckdns thanks to thkin6 which its free and easy to do. Make sure you sign in to get your token to copy it to the DuckDNS app on your computer. Once your done yout domain will be http://whateveryounamedit.duckdns.org:portnumber instead of http://whateveryounamedit.subsonic.org

No technical reason. The server got suspended by the hosting provider because of a missing payment (which in turns was a misunderstanding since they have always sponsored the server).

Unfortunately it took very long to sort it all out...

Not stupid: first time I went to figure it out, I was confused but very easy:

> Register with whichever DNS service you will use
> Set up service and point to existing external IP address
> Many routers have built in Dynamic DNS settings: For example, with FiOS's router, I can just pull-down DYNDns as my provider and fill in my hostname
> If your router does not have that, you'; have to download their own update client
> Once all set-up: Instead of parker.subsonic.org, I simply enter parkerfy.dyndns.org:8080 instead.

NOTE: This works for apps, Sonos, web, etc. BUT you have to use the ":PORT#" and NOT just the URL.

Admittedly, the Subsonic nameserver is very stable and rarely goes down, but I have several dozen users and hate the incessant emails when it does. Once you start using a Dynamic DNS, you'll never need to worry about it going down again.
