Has there every been any progress on the Self Registration feature?

Yea Option 3 or 4 would be perfect. Having the option to approve a user's registration would be key.

+1

Having a self registration page would be great and save a lot of time for admins.

A great super feature addressing the "private group of people" would be to allow a private link only known by admins that can give it to whomever they want to have it.

For example http://yourhost/reg1 or http://yourhost/starthere or whatever.

Another feature to go with it could be a template user that has the settings to be the default for users created via the self registration page.

Great software, love Subsonic! Thanks for all your hard work. I've made my donation and will make more donations to help along the way...

I have an idea, probably mentioned here before, but I think I'm going to test with an ldap server for user self registration. Tell me what you think:

I have 2 instances of subsonic running, Both 4.7 beta 3 on the same Windows XP Pro server.

What if I setup a LDAP server with self registration and link the server to both of my subsonic servers? Does this sound doable? Guessing it won't work because it's just 2 easy lol...

I considered it but the thread didn't say much about weather it works with 4.7 beta 3...? Also how hard will it be to update when new SS versions are released?

Works well on 4.7beta3 and there is only 1 file that you need to backup and replace when updating the rest of the files reside in a different directory. The only thing is you need Apache (or some other variant), PHP, & MySQL. That was not an issue for me as I already had then set up and running for other purposes. Overall it is a really great script and works very well.

When I looked at the requirements I decided not to go with it cause I didn't feel like installing and configuring apache, php, and mysql lol. I guess I could go with XAMPP. Would that work?

Also, another question that comes to mind is can I pick default settings for registered users? For example:

I have not dealt with XAMPP before so I can not vouch for that. It really requires a web server and a database and the ability to run PHP scripts.

Yes you configure all of the settings. It uses curl to register users with the official subsonic API. It pulls the data from the database and uses the php to create the API script to send.

Overall it takes very little maintenance and has a nice feature to allow you to need to approve the user before they get access.

XAMPP is an install package that includes apache, php, mysql, etc.

I am very tempted to backup my virtual machine and try it. I wonder why this code wouldn't eventually become part of one of the next subsonic releases...?

If I try later today I'll post results.

Thanks very much for the info...
