Yes..those IP ranges are LAN..non-routable over the WAN. Your issue is still port related...try the 8085 addy mentioned above: stop SS, open the console and apply port 8085. Restart SS. Go into your router and open port 8085 for the LAN IP your SS server runs on (eg. 192.168.0.x). Test with canyouseeme.org and port 8085.

That is not correct, Skype does not require any port forwarding to work because an outgoing connection is established by both callers to the Skype server, which acts as an intermediary. Setting up port forwarding for Skype can improve sound quality because it allows the callers to make a direct connection, but it is not necessary.

Subsonic and iSub require port forwarding because there is no intermediary server, so it's always a direct connection. Other music streaming apps that don't require port forwarding all use an intermediary server like Skype does. That makes setup easier, but of course the huge downside is that if/when they decide to stop offering their service, it stops working for everyone. If Sindre and I both stopped coding today, Subsonic and iSub would still be usable for everyone essentially forever.

Please forgive my faux pas as I really wasn't focused on the technical aspects of Skype as much I was offering a possible suggestion that may give a user a clue how to set up port forwarding properly on his router. Although Skype may not require port forwarding, it has always entered forwarding rules properly on systems I have encountered.

Thank you for the correction.

No problem, I just wanted to make sure that others with port forwarding issues that come across this in the future aren't confused at why their Skype seems to be working fine but not Subsonic.

Also, if anyone was interested, after speaking on Skype today, sbnic's issue is that his ISP does NAT on their side. So he does not have a public IP at all and the only way it can work is for them to forward the port for Subsonic on their side. His actual WAN ip address on his modem is a private IP (in the 10.x.x.x range).

Unfortunately, I think this type of ISP side NATing is going to becoming more and more common during the coming years as IPv4 addresses run out. The transition to IPv6 can't come quick enough.

I know this thread is years old but since Audiogalaxy is no longer active, i really want a service like Subsonic. But due to my internet issues (see post above), there is no way for me to access Subsonic outside of my home :(
Do you guys know of any other software that i could use that is relatively close to Subsonic but that i could access through web address same as Audiogalaxy? I don't need a service that requires me to upload media online, only a way to access through a internet address (something similar to Audiogalaxy). Or maybe a way to make Subsonic work...

Use port 4040 (should have been default), use your router's manual to open 4040 on your router (I usually open both TCP/UDP for 4040) for the FIXED IP of your server computer. This opens a path from WAN, through your router, to your server on port 4040. On the server, ensure Subsonic has a firewall exception for your OS's firewall. Subsonic must be running when you test 4040 at canyouseeme.org. Once your port test on 4040 completes successfully, you can set up and test on your phone.
