Well, there is another batch of updates waiting to be installed at home...I'll go ahead with those and hope for the best. If not...drat...about 50% of my use for SubSonic goes down the drain...

Turns out, it was just one update - a python one - I installed it, restarted the service, and the problem remains.

Hey Weidbrewer i didn't see what version of Ubuntu you were using but this thread will have links to most versions. My wife reminded me that when we had the problems playing m4a's that i installed something, well looks like i did miss some info. I finally remembered i had to install LAME on my box. I followed the instructions for 10.04 on http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=786095 thread. It did fail to compile ffmpeg but since this i got rid of the play.m3u problem. For some reason even having the ffmpeg partially compile is working. Hope this helps

Yes, I am using 10.04 (learned my lesson about the glorified beta-versions between LTS builds.) I am 99.9% sure that I have LAME installed, but I'll try going through those instructions when I get home. I'll try pretty much anything at this point. :D

I searched the Ubuntu forums, and about the only thing I found there was your post (gotta love using the same login names across the net...) I started a new thread as A.) I didn't want to threadjack yours and B.) my issue seems to be a different branch than yours - maybe one of the two of us will get a response. Thanks for the help.

No prob, i think i figured out what happened to me btw. I found that 10 lts does not have LAME installed by default i confirmed this when i followed the SS Sym link to ffmpeg and found all codes empty. Let me know if it does or does not work. I hope it works. just fyi stop the SS service after installing LAME, ffmpeg then start it again, don't restart, for some reason it start another instance of SS.

Yeah, those symlinks were broken for me as well, which is why I went through and installed all of those things...but we'll see what happens when I do it the "right" way.

Connected: I notice from your sig-line that you're using the 4.6 Beta - any major show-stoppers in there? My next step would be to try to update to that to see if it fixes anything, but I tend to shy away from Linux betas.

I haven't see any major differences off the bat seem very stable so far. My issue was that when we added another android client the trial period of 30 days got changed, causing all WAN connections to drop. Once I updated to beta the dates got corrected after 24hrs ???? and got access to my WAN SS. I've been seeing some issues on here with 4.6 but nothing i've encountered as of yet.

Still no workie.

Here are the 10.04 instructions:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p= ... count=1289

I was kind of a machine and just went down everything and accidentally went through, "Updating FFmpeg and x264" as well.

The "Invalid data found when processing input" part really makes me wonder.

EDIT: Turns out that the American Dad file was just a bad file...other videos actually play. WOO!

Music is still a no-go, however.

LOL same here, just for good measure i'm sure.

Can you see what happens when you uncheck Enable for all your videos, and wait till your SS refreshes its library. I have mine set for 3am so I notice changes the next day. Give that a shot and see what the log output is, im betting there's something that's being over looked.

Not sure what you mean by "Uncheck enable."

Also -as mentioned above - videos are working now. Just the music that does nada.

In SS Settings >Media folders there is a enable check box next to each share, i'm surmising you have videos on another directory than music. I Would say remove all others and t-shoot just music dirc. Hope this make snece.

Guess what...
.

.
Go on. Guess.

I went to try your suggestions, and for giggles I hit "play" on something beforehand, and it just works again.

Thanks for all of your help along the way here, though.

I had made this similar post about 20 minutes ago but deleted because I thought I had done something wrong but I can now confirm that it's a bug, easily replicated.

My setup:

SS 4.5 on W2K8 R2, service account created in AD for SS. I checked changelog to see if it was addressed in 4.6 and do not see any such bugfix.
Windows 7 X64 clients on FF 7.01 and 8.

Scenario:

I was playing in the web player on my desktop and decided to rip some albums and use the upload feature from my laptop. I have not used it in this version of SS before. I logged out on my desktop and then logged in with same account on laptop and upload a .zip that was decompressed successfully. I then logged out of the laptop and back in with the desktop and could no longer play anything in the web player. I was only prompted to play externally m3u playlists although the chosen player is set to use the web player. I then went into the player settings and set my chosen player to in fact play externally from m3u, saved and then set back to web player and I sure enough, I could play tracks again in web player.

Ripped another album, logged out of desktop and logged into SS on laptop with DIFFERENT account and uploaded .zip, which again was successfully decompressed and again, I could not play any tracks with any web player until I set it to play externally with m3u and then back to web player. Once I do that for any of the players I can then use the web player.
