Re: remote connection

I spent 3 hours today trying to track down the sudden inability of friends to make a remote connection and I am not a network noob. The connection to port 4040 was being refused and canyouseeme was giving it the thumbs down. No obvious reason why. I am running a Buffalo router with DD-WRT. Everything is set just as it should be and was when things were working even though I don't rely on port forwarding but use the the vanity domain address instead. As a final, grasping at straws resort, I had the router check for a firmware upgrade, which it found and I then flashed. I don't think what was flashed was in reality any newer than what was already on there because I've been through this with this router where it claims to have found newer firmware but it wasn't. Anyway - after a reboot, everything started working again. Beats the sh*t out of me!

It has been reported that port forwarding failures are sometimes fixed by a router reboot.

I've never seen that happen on my network, but I have seen it reported here in the forums many times.
