Java has got nothing to do with this issue.
I run Subsonic on Windows Server 2008 on a Virtual Machine.
I have all my music in a folder called Media Which is an UNC-path. (\\storage\Media)
Whenever I add a new artist or an album from an existing artist, Subsonic has no difficulties picking up any changes.
I don't update my server nor Java as I should be, but I have no issues running Subsonic.
So I don't know what your folder structure is, but there must be a problem there.

I also started having this problem about 2 weeks ago. I run straight Windows 10, Subsonic 6.1.3 (build e408c9 – October 31, 2017). The only way I could get Sub to recognize new files was to 'delete' the two folders from my Media Folders settings, Clean-Up Database and re-add these 2 folders and force a scan. Ever since I did that on the 24th it has not recognized any new additions.

Does anyone have a handle on this?

There is no problem with the 'folder structure' if the same directory can be scanned and find ALL the music/folders after Media Folder 'delete' and then re-add. Correct?

So how do you explain that Subsonic doesn't pick up newly added artists or albums?
The only other option is that Subsonic does find new music, but just isn't able to record changes to the database.
This would make sense because what you do is basically making the db empty and fill it again with the updated info.
You could try using an external database as described on http://www.subsonic.org/pages/database.jsp

Actaully, I lied. I had to delete and recreate the database and then it recognized ALL the music. I'm doing it again right now.

What are you doing again? The lying or deleting and recreating the db again?

Another trick is to add an empty text file. Works every time. Just have to rescan the library.

Good luck.

To clarify, deleting and adding the Media Folders does not help. That is what I lied about.

After going through all the scenarios of stopping the server, deleting folders, and adding folders, clean-up the database, restarting the server, etc... I found that I had to do a scratch install to recognize new music, and using my old subsonic.script file I could reconfigure the users, setting, media folders, etc...

And of course, now it finds all the files - new and old.

I will see what happens when I add some new media. And I will try the text file tip from Blueturtles (thanks!) if I find that new files are not being added. And I will report back.

I do have a question about the Clean-up Database setting. I have repeatedly clicked 'Clean-up Database' and I get no dialogthat it has done anything. And when I look in the subsonic.log there is no mention of any Clean-up Activity. Is this function working?

Yes the clean up function is really working, but as you noticed there isn't any indication on what's happening once you started the process.
Just one of these minor flaws in Subsonic.
I'm really interested in the progress of your Subsonic installation.
Since I've never experienced any trouble with Subsonic I really wonder why others seem to have a lot of problems with Subsonic's native database.
I now have a database covering 7,085 artists 19,390 albums 197,117 songs 1505.43 GB without any issues.

Thanks for the Clean-up answer. For reference, I had over 250K files (across 15 folders) before the problem surfaced. The re-scan count ended at 268,920 or so files most recently. Now I've got about 87K in the two folders that I've set as enabled now.

I've never had a problem other than the database getting corrupted twice in the past 4 or 5 years I've been a Pro user. I simply reinstalled the latest version in a new directory and reset everything those times. This problem was a real surprise when one of my guest users and I noticed it at the same time a little over a week ago. I wouldn't wish it on you, but that may help since I'm sure you have the knowledge and tools to investigate it.

Thanks!

The 3am scan did not find the new music folders. Or maybe it did but it marked them as 'non-present'? Any chance of that?

I tried blueturtles tip on adding a blank text file. I named it subsonic_blank.txt. It did not help. Can you be more specific on your technique please, blueturtles?

Here is the bottom of the log file from the rescan minutes ago. I have seen these 'OutOfMemoryError' WARN message on pretty much every scan. Is this an issue?

I deleted any image files that were throwing a WARN of out of memory and rescanned. I get no more warnings but the new folders were not picked up.

I'm at wits end. Here is what I just tried to see if it was version related: shut down all Subsonic processes. renamed the C:/subsonic to C:/subsonic_old. Installed version 6.1.3. added small media folder. scanned. added 3 directories to media folder. rescanned. no new directories found. It would appear it's not release related.

This started happening after 8/26 and before 8/29 based on the create dates for the folders that had been'discovered' once becoming aware of this issue.

I looked at my Windows update history (and Installed Updates) and there were no updates between 8/16 (KB4458166) and 9/11 (KB4457146).

As far as Windows programs installed, there was 'MyMedia for Alexa' on 7/28, updated on 8/22 and 9/8.

I am at a loss at what to look at next.

Renaming the previous installation folder got you in trouble,
To perform a really clean installation you have to uninstall Subsonic. ( Export playlists first if you want to keep them.)
Next find any remnants because Subsonic never deletes the entire installation but leaves the Subsonic folder with some subfolders. ( The database- and db backup folders.)
Keeping these folders will also keep the troubles you have with Subsonic. I would move them to another drive for the time being.
Next install a fresh copy of Subsonic and configure it to be the way you had it.
Now perform a folderscan, and after finishing that add some more folders to see if your problem is solved.
I know that in this way you'll lose a lot of info like the statistics, star ratings and users and passwords.

I found the problem. I moved my two dynamic folders to exFAT 8TB drives from an NTFS 1TB drive. I didn't even think about the format when I installed my latest 8TB drives - both exFAT by default WD My Book drives. And now pretty damn full of data. I can adjust here. But I would like to know if sometime in the future you could add exFAT media scan support, since drives advertised for Mac/Windows compatibility like to default to this nonsense.

Thanks!
