Hi,

From what I understand, Subsonic 4.73 lets you view your music sorted by the tags, instead of by folders. For some reason I cannot find a way to make the left-hand pane display my media by Artist/Album Artist (it still shows the folders).

Am I missing something?

I'm wondering this too, i have no ways to organize the files so id3 based indexing is only thing i want.

It seems the beta have this but i couldn't figure it out.

I've built a modded Subsonic server that does this (amongst other things). It might not be what you want since it changes a whole lot of things, but I'll post a link for the record: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=9504

Yup. Use the stand-alone version from http://dilerium.se/musiccabinet/#installation . Since you're running Linux, I guess you're nerdy enough to get the shell script that starts the subsonic service running.

Is this add-on the only way to display only the artists in the left pane? New to Subsonic... my left pane displays all albums as they are in their folders, eg:

Artist A - Album 1
Artist B - Album 2

and I'd like to display only Artist A, and then when I click, it expands somehow to dive down into which album I want. I've seen a bunch of screenshots from others who have their left pane like this, so is everyone using MusicCabinet? I'm definitely open to trying it if that's the best/only way.

You need to have the directory structure as Artist\Album\Tracks.
The left frame will then only display artists - click on one and the centre frame will then display the albums.

But it then displays folder names in the left frame, doesn't it? So artists like "Why?", "The Radio Dept." and other which use reserved file system characters don't get displayed. Or has that been changed in 4.7?
