Subsonic Forum

Hello!
I have got problem with Subsonic since I upgraded JAVA on my computer.
I then have rolled back my computer and used the older JAVA-version.
Still same problem with Subsonic.
I have uninstalled Subsonic and then installed the latest version, and still there is no Subsonic running.

When I go to http://localhost:4040 or http://localhost I just get the message "This site cannnot bee shown" (but in swedish).
When I look in Task Manager there is no Subsonic running.

I´m on Windows XP.

Can you help me?

Did you do a clean install? eg delete c:\subsonic folder before re-installing.

There is no subsonic folder left in C:\ after I have uninstalled the program.

Is there any other way to do a "clean install"? Are ther left any more traces of the old install anywhere?

Use control panel Add/Remove Programs to uninstall Subsonic. Delete C:\Subsonic. Again use control panel to uninstall all instances/updates for Java.

Install latest version of Java for your OS:

Install latest Subsonic:

If you're only familiar with the Windows install, just download and run the subsonic-4.7-setup.exe to do the Windows install.

If you still get, "Site cannot be displayed" let us know if that is from inside or outside the network and if the local host can connect to the site.

I have uninstalled/installed Java and Subsonic.
Now Subsonic is running! And it finds my music in the chosen folder. (But I get a note that I have to donate again!?)

Now I have another problem.
I have tried to go to http://YOURNAME.subsonic.org on another computer and I get the message "Site cannot be displayed".
From my Anddroid phone I get a network error message when I try to find my music.
Sorry but I´m not that technical in this manner and I don´t know what "inside or outside the network" really means.
And as I understand I don´t have a router. It´s just a WLAN modem (don´t know if that is the right name of it).

Subsonic has actually worked perfect before the JAVA update so now I really don´t know what to do.

Hit the donate button and enter the license key that you recieved in the email you got when you donated.

Then go to Settings/Network, reenter your server.subsonic.org name and "Save" at the bottom. You will get a message that tells you if you've registered the name. I fyou want someone to test it from outside, just send me a PM and I'll verify that it brings up your logon screen.

But I´m still unable to reach subsonic from my phone. And it´s not possible to reach my server.subsonic.org from outside.

YES, YES, at last!! Now it works after a bit of fiddling. I think I had confused username and the name in the name.subsonic.org. Pardon me.
I also had to use "automatic configuaration of the router" to get it running.

Excellent! It does seem that more and more routers are able to use Plug and Pray than just a few short years ago, to do the automatic setup for the port forwarding.

I'm really glad this worked for you. I would suggest that when you get some time take a look at the entries that Subsonic made in your router's port forwarding table and try to understand what is happening there. Understanding what's going on there is valuable information well worth understanding.

All routers are a bit different. You access the management screens by using a browser pointed to the ip address of the router, usually at 192.168.1.1 or something similar. Your router's manual is where you'll find the address your router uses and how to access the management pages and is essential reading for building a sophisticated home network.

Sooner or later you will definitely need to master the functions of your router. That's one of the major benefits of being a Subsonic user as it forces you to go quite a bit further into the nuts and bolts of home networking than the average user. Understanding Internal vd. external ip addresses, NAT - Network Address Translation, firewalls, port forwarding, and everything else that goes into a successful Subsonic install are all concepts that will serve you well going forward once you've mastered them.

Truth be told, I have multiple Subsonic instances on multiple servers and virtual machines that access a central media library with over 4 TB of media. that I almost NEVER listen to or watch. For me it's been more about the learning process and understanding the project. The fact that the rest of the family and my friends (both of them - LOL) enjoy using SS is just an added bonus.
