4.7 install help

Postby gurutech » Sat Sep 15, 2012 2:31 am

I was running 4.6 with the registration mod and the signature mod, with no problems.

Backed up my /var/subsonic and main web folder, then downloaded and installed 4.7 (final release).

Now I am getting an http 503 error - "service unavailable", with request url=/

I checked permissions on the subsonic folder and subfolders, and changed the owner to "root" (which is how I had 4.6 running.)

The only other change from default on 4.7 I made was increasing the max memory to 200 (from 150) in the /etc/sysconfig/subsonic file.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Oh, and I have restarted Subsonic a couple times already.... do I need to restart the whole server?

update: removed subsonic, then reinstalled. And it works.

BUT... it's not seeing any of my music files. I checked access to the music folder, and it was there, but I went ahead and deleted the media folder, then re-added, and it saw my playlists (which are stored in /var/playlists) and from there it was able to see whatever music I had in any of those playlists, but my entire library still could NOT be seen.

Any ideas?

Have you rescanned the media folders? - if so any errors showing in the SS log?

Due to the confusion from too many genres of music, we have decided to put both country music and rap music into the genre of Crap music.

Have you checked to make sure that the file extensions for the file types you're scanning are entered into the Settings/General - Video files box?

Yep, file extensions are listed. In fact, if I add my "videos" folder, it will see those with no problem. It's only the "music" folder that it doesn't see, and I have checked permissions between the two folders, and all are exactly the same.

I'd try setting up a 3rd folder and putting a few test folders in there to verify that it can see the files. If it works, xfer the entire library, delete the original folder, then rename the new folder.

Fixed it.... but I want to see how long this will last...

Changed my /etc/fstab file to mount my music folder under /media/music2 instead of /media/music, then created the ./music2 folder, and ran a mount -a, and then added the music2 folder to SS, and it's scanning away now...

Seems like there was a "ghost" folder configured somewhere, since at one point, SS was running but couldn't connect to that folder, and it "saved" that status.

I also had the same problem of getting the 503 error when upgrading to 4.7, and I've seen other threads about this as well. Never had this problem with previous upgrades. I rolled back to 4.6 with no problems, is this something that may be addressed as a bug fix in an upcoming release so we can feel comfortable upgrading safely?

Thanks Sindre for all you do!

The problem seems to be with "upgrading" versus a "clean install". Doing an uninstall (yum remove subsonic) of the old version, then install (yum install subsonic-4.7) seems to do the trick. (This method saves your settings)

My issue was a little more involved (and it is still "fixed!!") in being that my database was corrupted, due to some issues I had back with 4.6. I had to do the uninstall, then completely remove the /var/subsonic folder before reinstalling (which also removed my settings)
