Stutters at the end of a track -- RESOLVED

Postby FreeMan » Thu Jan 17, 2008 5:23 pm

I'm streaming from home to my office, and at the end of each track, I'm getting continual stutters. Using WMP as my player (can't install better on the office machine). WMP says 'Buffering', then gets from 1% to 90+% done, then goes back and starts over. During this time, the Bitrate goes from ~128Kbps to ~1Mbps.

Stopping & starting play on WMP (stop, not pause) seems to fix it, but then when I restart, it jumps 2-3 tracks ahead, since Subsonic is showing the 'Now Playing' track way ahead of what I'm actually listening to.

I'm listening to audio-book type tracks, so they're pretty long (20 - 120 minutes), does this have anything to do with it? In answer to my own question, no. I just played a short track (3:45), and I'm getting the same thing.

I could queue up just one track at a time, but that defeats the purpose of play lists, and it means I have to pay attention, instead of just letting it roll in the background.

Any thoughts?
TIA

Maybe it works better if you use client-side playlists. Please go to player settings and turn on "Playlist is managed by player".

Hope this helps,

Giving that a try

I made the change, now I've got to wait 30 or so minutes for this track to end, and I'll let you know.

When it's set to client-side playlists, do I still use the web site to add/delete/rearrange tracks, or do I actually do them from the player?

Thanks for the quick response!

No joy in bean-town

That didn't help. It's still doing the buffering two-step as soon as it's time to swap tracks.

Having the client-side playlist management is nice because it shows the actual name of the track, instead of just 'stream'.

Any other ideas? I'm willing to try anything.

I'm not sure if it helps, but you could try to change the streaming buffer size in WMP.

It seems that after shutting down WMP and restarting the playlist from within the Subsonic (clicked PLAY), the restarted copy of WMP is working OK.

Thanks, Sindre!

Great work on a slick little piece of software, and great support, too.
