[SOLVED] Subsonic ad removal

Dear subsonic,

I just upgraded the subsonic app. It looks pretty!
I also opted to pay for ad removal. And I did this on my tablet.

When I then tried on my phone, it opened up the google play store and I saw an app named "subsonic ad removal" in the background, and a foreground message telling me that I already purchased the item. It then goes back to subsonic without installing the "subsonic ad removal" app. Leaving my phone to still have ad's.

So I think there's a bug there somewhere if you want to do this on two devices.

(Google Galaxy nexus and Google Nexus 7)

I don't know what you are talking about... there is no pay version of the official Subsonic android app. There is only "Subsonic Music Streamer."

Are you talking about a different app?

I'm talking about the latest upgrade:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... 2lkYXBwIl0.

It now comes with Ad's/ And the option to pay to have the ad's removed.

So on my phone, When I press the "remove ads" option:

I then get this: And I'm stuck:

Because, when I press "ok" it just goes back to subsonic and nothing happens.

Try deleting the app from the phone and redownloading/signing back in..
This is the first I've heard Sindre now has 'free' version but we could see major growth in this project as a result. Oddly, we're conditioned to pay to delete ads rather than donate to support software we enjoy...so this just might work!

I think this may have been added to the app so you could donate and license the Subsonic site from the app.

Subsonic (desktop) has ads if you haven't donated.

OP - did you get and put a kicense key onto your Subsonic server?

Actually I think that is not quite right... I think Sindre has decided that the time that he spends working on the Android app is worth something... either an additional donation (to remove ads) or ad revenue.

What's in this version:
o Major facelift!
o Detect Bluetooth connect/disconnect in ICS.
o Ad supported.
o Use Wifi lock.

I have not installed the new version, so I can't be sure...

I have the latest version and do not have adds. I do remember notes in the todo list about adding the ability to donate from the app being added. That's why I thought that might be what's going on.

Hopefully the OP can tell us. If he's in the first 30 days, I think he cac connect with the app, but just like an unregistered site, he would get adds if he hasn't installed a license key.

Just guessing ...

From the TODO list:

"Sleep timer.
Maintain track order for offline files.
Check for lingering .partial files.
https://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=2&shva ... ca4244da22
Don't pause on incoming call if RC.
PayPal integration"

Simplification is a good thing! OP...fwiw I just updated my SS on my SGS3, and selected and purchased ad removal...it indicated some statement about arriving shortly...but I noticed the field 'ad removal' is now blank on the phone (enabled), and I saw no additional update to the phone. When I fired up my Nexus 7 and tethered, I got a receipt notice from Play about the purchase in my gmail, and I immediately went to Play to force an update on the tab. It went off without a hitch, and is ad free, so I think my earlier suggestion to retry the tab app may work. Keep us posted!

This update is brand new today... just showed up on my phone at 11 am EST.

But you are right, the OP will be able to tell us, although from alpha's posts above it appears that he bought the add removal, and I'm SURE he was already a registered user... ;-)

If that's the case I would find it a bit disappointing that terms of service have essentially changed without notifying long-term users who like myself have already donated multiple times to support the development of Subsonic.

EDIT: Yeah - I see it after updating.

I'm sorry but I feel betrayed by this. Not fair.

Sorry if this sounds like whinning or a rant, but I've been a long time supporter and advocate of Subsonic and have given a lot of time and effort evangelizing Subsonic on podcasts and other public forums, not to mention the time and effort I've put into supporting others here in this forum.

To be blindsided by this is unconscionable.

From now on ALL my future donations will be going to the modders who have been far more responsive to feature requests recently. I WILL NOT pay for the Subsonic app under any circumstance solely on principle as I feel that my trust has been breached.

I will use alternate apks available - and even pay for them - even if they are inferior - rather than support this kind of treatment.

How unfortunate.

Just to make it clear: I payed for the server version and installed the license.

I payed for the äd free version of subsonic on my tablet, and tried to do so again on my phone. But on my phone it sai I had alreadu purchased it and goes back to subsonic.
But it still has ad's now.

So: Tablet = add free
Phone = still ad's and unable to buy again.

Please delete the phone app, sign out of Google, Nav back to Play, sign back in and redownload the new app. Any joy?

Solved it by deleting and then reinstalling the app. Not very intuitive but hey.

To be even more clear: I do not mind paying, and would not mind paying for every installation. I DO mind a hassle like this.

Plus, when I start paying for something I expect and demand WAY more then from a free version. Stable, and all features should be working. In this case: Video. Completely missing. Flash does not run on Android phones....

I'd appreciate another update that would rectify that situaion.
