Hi,
Im running Subsonic on a V-Server with Ubuntu 12 and Java 6.
When im trying to access the Web Frontend under http://****:4040 my Browser cant find the Site, its like no Server is running.

But sudo /etc/init.d/subsonic status
gets: * subsonic is running

My Firewall ist temporary konfigured to let pass every traffic, but its still not working.

I have no Idea where the problem could be, please help me!

To avoid the risk of network issues/firewalls, try going to localhost:4040? Or simply connect from the terminal: telnet localhost 4040 and see if the port is open?

Hi, it looks like the Port is closed:
Code: Select all
telnet localhost 4040
Trying ::1...
Trying 127.0.0.1...
telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused

At the last try, i had a filebrowser in firefox under http://***:4040, therefore i think somethin with Subsonic is wrong...

Hmm. Since the java process is running, it should be listening on some port (if it didn't crash on that last garbage collection that's written to the log?). Do you get any clue from running netstat –lp --inet | grep java or something like that? I'm just guessing though, I have no idea what's going on.

Hi, thanks for the fast reply.
"netstat –lp --inet | grep java" gives no output, netstat itself shows only my other server deamons.
In some cases, i cant even kill the subsonic process, so you could be right that subs crashes everytime.

Its too bad that it doesnt run, its great Program and runs great at my HomeServer.

Is it posible to extract the .war file manually and start jetty?

If it does crash, there should be another log for it, giving a reason? I'd look for that first.

There are different ways to run it, I guess you could install tomcat for example and get the WAR version from http://www.subsonic.org/pages/download.jsp and run it that way.

This is what i get atm: Image

I am running Xammp on this machine too, could it cause conflicts?

There's supposed to be an index.html and an index.jsp in that directory, too. Any idea where they went?

I dont, it takes over 5 minutes until this site appers.

Ive tried to install tomcat, but i have the same problem; no listen port appears und i cant reach the server.

There must be something basically wrong, but what?

Whatever it is, I wouldn't blame Subsonic at this point.

You might be interested in checking how healthy your Java installation is (what version is it? which one is used?). If you really want to get your hands dirty, you could strace your Java invocation to see which system calls are invoked and try and find out where it fails.. but if both Tomcat and Subsonic fail, I'd suspect either something about your user rights, your network setup or your Java installation. Pretty vague, I know.

I have the exact same problem (well, as far as I can understand).

Subsonic process runs, but it is listening to no port. My investigation so far seems to conclude that there is a problem with Java and certain VServer providers specially those based on OpenVZ. On my VM, if I don't add subsonic.war to my tomcat, it works fine, but as soon as I install the war and restart tomcat, it stops responding as well.

Also, sometimes I get a "A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment" from JVM, which also seems to be related to the memory management of the virtualization environment.
