Artist Column in Browse won't display

Just upgraded to 2.8 from beta and the artist column won't display in the browser window. Regardless of what I set in the settings, I can not get the artist to display as a column in the browser. It works fine in the playlist section. This was working in 2.8 beta 1

Yeah, there's an undocumented feature called "various artist detection".
The artist column in the main window is only displayed if there is more than one artist in the directory.
