I've been reading around this forum and lot of advice is to not use port 80.
Why can't you use that port? What kind of problems will we run into?

I seen people setting up http servers and do some porting magic to have access at work that has a strict firewall

Imho, there are two reasons. Most important, port 80 is standard for http which is unencrypted, thus your credentials are not encrypted and can be sniffed. My advice: avoid using unencrypted protocols on the internet. Another reason is that port 80 is often already used by some other service or infrastructure (e.g. your router), but this reason often also applies to port 443 (https).

It is hard to convince administrator that this doesn´t help at all to improve security or compliance, unless they actually disallow or terminate https and inspect the contents as otherwise you can tunnel anything through anyway.
