Subsonic Forum

Hi,

Thought this would be a simple setup but I very quickly have become incredibly frustrated.

I'm using a Toshiba tablet with android 4.0.4, I've installed the subsonic.apk file.
As far as I know I have my router (Dlink 825) setup right.
As far as I know I have my NAS (seagate goflex home) setup right.
As far as I can tell subsonic is running as a service, (there seems to be two processes)

Though I have no Idea how to double check these things.

When I type in http://localhost or http://127.0.0.1 or any other variation I'm getting webpage not available. I'm not understanding how to get my personal subsonic server so therefore do not understand how to select a different server or how to fill in the blanks in setting.

I am at complete loss as to what to do.

Thank you alphawave7 for the link. I've read a couple of tutorials, including the one you linked to, and most involve windows which has greatly added to my confusion.

I'm using my android tablet as my player. Does that mean I need java on on the tablet? http://www.papktop.com/tag/aide-android-java-ide-apk
My NAS (goflex home) is running some flavor of Fedora. Do I install the subsonic server there? I'm assuming that could be done through a web interface, a tutorial I will have to find.

The only thing I'm using windows for is to read tutorials.

This also looks like I need a static IP address, is this correct?

Yes..SS is a server->clients arrangement, and a NAS installation is possible (even Fedora), but often requires more tweaking and knowledge to maintain through updates and such. Still, if it's the only thing that's 24/7/365 uptime at home, that would be your best option. The NAS (or any server) needs a static IP assigned to it, by whatever method offered by your router, and correct, you will need a java install on the NAS...Sun seems to work better than openjdk insofar as memory, according to reports here. Search our fora for Fedora tute's, and if you have more questions, go ahead and post them to this thread, I can always change it title if you wish, so that others with a better understanding of your arrangement can weigh in.
