subsonic broken after updating tomcat-6.0.35-tomcat-6.0.36

I am running the subsonic.war (4.7) in FreeBSD 8.3 using tomcat 6(tomcat-6.0.35 ). I recently updated the tomcat installation but now after starting tomcat again I am not able to load up subsonic.
I can get a reply using telnet to port 8180, but aside from that I can not get any communication. Either by the actual url, the VIP URL or on my phone.
How can I start working out what is broken here?
I have already tried moving the old subsonic dir in webapps and building a new one when tomcat starts up but this has had no effect either.
