My iPad got stolen. Is there a way I could use subsonic/iSub to track where it is? I did go into the web interface looking under status but it only shows current connections and does not give an IP address.

What's the lol for? Is that an acronym in a foreign language for "I'm a Jerk".
It's a legitimate question from somebody whose iPad just got stolen. If that person listens to the music through iSub/Subsonic on my iPad a connection is established between the iPad and Subsonic which is installed on my server. It's entirely possible that Subsonic somehow tracks the originating IP address which could help pinpoint the thief. I actually found the subsonic.log log file but while it lists the players (which would help figuring out if the thief ever listens to my music) it does not show any IP addresses.

Doesn't apple already included software to track lost/stolen pads? That would be much easier.

Apart from anything else I think that there's already an extremely good argument for an IP address not necessarily being connected to an individual.
Perhaps McDonalds stole your ipad?

Thanks for the replies. I have heard about the tracking software. Not sure if this is an app that needs to be installed on the stolen (in my case) or lost device. It probably does unless the device is regularly posting back its device ID to its associated account and the software gets the info from there. Well, I'll give it a try.

I'm a technical account supervisor and we deal with iPads for a field force that our team supports in the Pharma industry. I assure you that 99.9 percent of the time, even if the iPad is like ours, and is managed by an MDM server. The thing is wiped as soon as it's around the corner. Most times, I don't even get the opp to lock it remotely before the thief has wiped it.
